| Raj Bhavan clarification on Governor | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 18 Regretting that an attempt is being made to vilify the Head of the State, a Raj Bhavan spokesman said that statements are being made by some responsible people without going through the provisions of the Constitution. The spokesman clarified that a Governor assumes appointment after taking oath of office and this happens only after the outgoing Governor has departed. Therefore the question of there being two Governors at one time does not arise at all, the spokesman maintained. He said that the notification of the appointment does not give the date for Governor to assume office. "This is left to be decided by the incoming and outgoing Governors', he added. The spokesman said that the present incumbent of the Raj Bhavan General S K Sinha assumed his appointment nearly four weeks after the notification was issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Similarly, his predecessor, Girish Chandra Saxena also assumed his office 12 days after his appointment was announced. This has been the practice in all the States, he maintained. |
