| Trouble brewing up for Dr Kumar | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 19 Five days are still left for Lt Gen SK Sinha to bid adieu to the majestic Raj Bhawan after glorious five year stint as Jammu and Kashmir Governor that problems have already begin for his Principal Secretary Dr Arun Kumar. The coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party in its wide ranging reservations against the Raj Bhawan and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board running from there has already been gunning for Dr Kumar. Senior IAS Officer Dr Arun Kumar is Principal Secretary to the Governor and by virtue of this position he holds the powerful position of Chief Executive Officer of two shrine boards headed by the Governor. While the PDP is all fire against Dr Kumar, the government too has taken exception to his style of working. A day after his press conference in which he allegedly over stepped his brief to snub the Peoples Democratic Party, the Chief Secretary is reported to have summoned Dr Kumar and asked him to explain as why he made political comment. Strongly reacting to Dr Kumar’s comments, the PDP in a hard hitting statement on Wednesday said, “The situation has now reached a stage when even the officials of the Board belonging to country's premier Administrative Service have started questioning the authority of the same legislature that has empowered the Governor to run the affairs of the Amarnath Yatra. We are sure, the authorities in the State and the Central Government have taken notice of the impertinence of such observations”. After his repatriation from an extended central deputation, Dr Arum Kumar had joined the Raj Bhawan as Principal Secretary to the then Governor GC Saxena in 2002. Ever since he has been staying put at the Raj Bhawan even after change of guard when Gen Sinha took over in 2003. |
