| 400 teachers, masters attached in city under deployment cover | | Interference of politicians, bureaucrats spoiling education department | | Pankaj Sagar Jammu | June 20 Like most of the State Government departments, Department of School Education is too plagued with many ills, which came to fore after the recently declared board results of Matric and 10+2, wherein the students of Government institutions failed to leave any mark. Notably, students of private institutions grabbed all the top positions in Matric as well as 10+2 results but, contrary to it, several Government institutions even failed to record even one percent of pass result. This is to mention that State Government has adequately employed teachers at all levels and they are even over qualified for the respective posts. On the other hand, teachers in private institutions are being paid much less than their counterparts in Government institutions and also over burdened but still they are yielding much better results. According to reliable sources in Directorate of School Education, more than 400 teachers and masters have been attached with in Jammu City under the cover of deployment just to please the political masters and blue eyed persons, ignoring the fate of the poor students in Government institutions especially in rural region. Also, the gazetted officers from teaching community have been attached with the Directorate just to perform clerical job. Not only this, even thousand posts of teachers, master and lecturers have been lying vacant and the administration is simply appointing inexperienced persons as contractual lecturers, sources added. One of the senior officers in Directorate of School Education, on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the only factor which makes difference between the performance of private and Government educational institutions is that of management. “In private institutions, the control lies at the hands of the owner. On the other hand, in Government institutions the control lies in the hands of different officers, which ultimately disturbs the order, as being said Too Many Cooks Spoil The Dish”, he added. Some of the other senior officers have also acknowledged that Director School Education and other senior officials of the Education Department were being compelled by the bureaucrats and ministers or influential politicians to pass certain orders which directly affect the working of educational institutions and ultimately turns into zero percent result producing institutions and leaving plenty of scope for private institutions to flourish. Even, lack of proper planning at the top most level is equally responsible for the prevailing mess in the State Education Department, they remarked. Sources close to Director School Education admitted that had the politicians and bureaucrats not applied their pressures on the Director and CEOs, the output of Government institutions would have been different. “More importantly, even sometimes under the garb of political and bureaucratic interference, some of our own officials have also exploited the said situation”, he disclosed. |
