| LeT commander killed in Handwara | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 20 Security forces claimed to have eliminated a commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit at Kahipora area in district Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources informed News Agency of Kashmir that acting on a tip-off, police personnel from Handwara and Srinagar police station and the troops of 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Khaipora in Handwara and gunned down a Pakistani national who was operating as 'self-styled' commander of LeT outfit. Sources informed that soon after receiving information about the presence of militants in the house of one Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone son of Mohammad Abdullah, resident of Khaipora in Qaziabad under the jurisdiction of police station Kralgund in Handwara, the troops launched a joint operation. During search operation, the holed up militants opened indiscriminate fire on troops which was retaliated by security forces jawans. Sources further informed that a brief encounter took place between militants and security forces jawans which led to killing of LeT commander. He has been identified as Mehboob Ahmad Afraidi alias Jugnu alias Faisal son of Moulvi Talib Afraidi, resident of Check 879 Anjum Farmali, Pakistan. Sources said, "The commander was operating as district commander of LeT for Sopore. One AK rifle, three Magazines and one grenade were also recovered from the site of encounter." However, there was no other damage to property or life was reported in the encounter. |
