| Self Help Groups seek separate SRO | | | Jammu, July 8 : Alleging that the basic scheme formulated by the state government for the benefit of unemployed engineers was loosing it essence due to the strict Codel formalities, Jammu and Kashmir Self Help Groups Association has demanded issuance of a separate SRO so that the engineers working under it can be benefited at large.
Addressing a press conference, here today, president All J&K Self Help Groups Association, Kuldip Singh Jamwal said that the Groups were facing tremendous hardship due to the formalities of getting the scheme extended every year. "The basic purpose behind the scheme was to benefit the unemployed engineers of the state, whose number is growing every year, but unfortunately some departments were even ignoring the scheme and allotting the work to the private contractors", he alleged.
"The scheme was initially launched by the state government in the year 2003 to provide jobs to the unemployed engineers of the state and 25 percent quota of works was fixed for the Self Help Groups", he said adding, "The government, however, took a bold decision recently and extended the quota work from 25 to 30 percent and raised the limit of works from 20 to 50 lakhs".
Admitting the misuse of the scheme, he said though the scheme was launched for the benefit of unemployed engineers but unfortunately few self help groups were subletting their Registration Cards to private contractors on commission basis. "The Association has taken strong note of it and any one found doing such act would be exposed", he added.
He urged upon the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to convene a meeting of all the concerned departments as promised by him in the meeting held at his Private Office to solve the problems being faced by the self help groups.
