| Clean sweep by Jammu in indoor events | | Divisional level inter-district competitions | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 20 After winning the boys under-14 table tennis final yesterday, Jammu district made a clean sweep in both boys and girls sections of under-17 and under-14 age groups thereby clinching all the four titles in twin events of badminton and table tennis in the annual divisional level inter-district competitions organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here. In the under-14 boys badminton final, Jammu defeated Kathua 2-0. In singles, D S Subam of Jammu beat Sanjay Singh Jasrotia in straight sets 21-9, 21-1 while in doubles, the pair of Ayush Raina and Akshav outplayed Anoop Gupta and Sanjay Singh Jasrotia in equal straight sets of 21-9, 21-9. The under-17 boys title was also clinched by Jammu district beating Poonch 2-0. In singles, Abhijeet beat Prashant in a one-sided contest 21-3, 21-0. In doubles, Faisal and Sumit trounced the pair of Tejinder and Tarun in straight sets 21-16, 21-14. In the under-17 table tennis final, Jammu outplayed Poonch 3-2 after facing a close contest. The results: Pallav Dubey bt Akhil Maini 11-3, 11-5; Shurya Sharma bt Anupam Ghai 11-6, 11-5; Shaul Koul lost to Mohit Sasan 11-7, 7-11, 8-11; Pallav Dubey lot to Anupam Ghai 10-12, 11-4, 5-11; Shurya Sharma bt Akhil Maini 11-6, 11-7. In the valedictory function of badminton and table tennis, Director General of Department of Youth Services and Sports, P S Gill was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. Assistant Director DYSS, Ashok Kumar was guest of honour. Speaking to the winners and runners-up teams of two events, the Director General stressed on better playing facilities for the sportspersons. “Efforts would be made to ensure proper infrastructure and allied facilities to the deserving and needy trainees so as to achieve improved results,” said Mr Gill. In order to achieve better results at the national and international level, the DG Sports advocated the idea of sending the coaches outside the state for advance training and refreshers courses. He also made an announced with regard to launch of a comprehensive talent hunt programme for sports excellence shortly. Prominent among those present included Krishan Lal Sharma, Sports Officer (J) of State Sports Council; Inderjeet Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer; Pusha Sharma, Sports Officer Directorate of DYSS; Sunita Goel, Manorma Sharma and Surinder Singh Spolia. |
