Jammu | June 20
Senior IAS officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Dr Arum Kumar has landed in a deep soup as a local court in the summer capital has asked the Srinagar Police to initiate proceedings against the officer.
The Peoples Democratic Party had Thursday filed a law suit against Dr Kumar accusing him of fanning communal passions and challenging the political authority. The PDP in its complaint before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar contended that with his statements the senior bureaucrat was trying to create a wedge between Hindus and Muslims.
Sources from Srinagar said that the Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar Mohammad Ibrahim took a serious view of allegations filed against Dr Kumar. The CJM Court has directed Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Syed Afadul Mujtaba to investigate the matter and submit report before Court within one week.
Dr Arun Kumar is at the center of a hot political controversy ever since he addressed a press conference two days back. The SASB CEO Kumar had asked (in his press conference) why “Muslim pollution is tolerable and not Hindu pollution”. The reference was to the pollution caused to the Dal Lake, Wular Lake etc by local residents, mostly Muslims.
“He intended to incite communal hatred across t he state and the country…” Beig said.
The PDP is already in a spot because the forest minister, Qazi Afzal, who cleared the land transfer belongs to the party. Since the protests erupted, Beig has tried to shift the blame on ally Congress, accusing it of forcing Afzal’s hand.
“Kumar is a disgrace for the shrine…” Beig said. “If he has the blessings of the governor, it is a matter of shame.” As already reported the Chief Secretary too has taken a serious note of the statement of Dr Kumar and already had sought explanation from him.
