District admin organises Mega Kisan Mela

RAJOURI, Nov 27: As a part of the Back to Village programme Phase II, the department of agriculture today organised a Mega Kisan Mela here at Siot Panchayat to create awareness among the farmers about the latest agricultural techniques and encourage them to go for modern farming.
The Mela was inaugurated by the District Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas, District Agricultural officer and other district and sectoral officers.
The frontline workers of departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Floriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Social Welfare, Handicraft, Handloom, JK Bank and others gave the locals information related to various central and state government schemes meant for the welfare of the general public.
The locals sought government intervention for taping huge potential of the area in agriculture, dairy, poultry, mushroom cultivation and other sectors. They also demanded for setting up of small vermicompost units in the area to enhance agricultural production.
The progressive farmers also shared their valuable experiences with the public and highlighted the ways by which the income of the farm operating families can be doubled. They stressed upon the use of technology including use of modern agricultural machinery, high yielding varieties of seeds, drip irrigation etc.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad inaugurated the second segment of 'Back to Village- Phase II (B2V2) programme by launching Medicinal plantation drive in the premises of Government Boys High School Siot and announced Rs 3.0 Lakh for a Model Examination Hall.
The DC highlighted the objectives of the programme and stressed upon the people to project their developmental requirements before the visiting officers. He further said that major thrust area of the programme will be to assess the progress in the follow-up of decisions in 1st phase of 'Back to Village'. The DDC also stressed upon the officers to ensure that all field functionaries attend Gram Sabhas and provide required information regarding developmental activities with the locals.
He also informed that district administration has decided to declare Siot as an organic village. He urged upon the farmers to keep themselves updated with the new welfare schemes and programmes launched by the government from time to time.
The DDC also issued instructions to revenue officers for identification of land for construction of Revenue complex at Siot.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Labour Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana made the public aware of various schemes of labour department and urged upon them to come forward to avail the benefits of these schemes. On the occasion an amount of Rs.64,500 was distributed among the beneficiaries in the form of cheque under Construction workers welfare scheme.
