| Endgame for Dr Kumar | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 21 Foregoing any middle path, the situation which assumed today either exonerates Governor’s Principal Secretary Dr Arun Kumar or lands him in a larger soup than he would have ever expected. Meanwhile, the meeting of state cabinet slated for this evening was postponed following persisting differences between the coalition partners Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress. Sources said that the meeting had to be cancelled after learning that the PDP Ministers may stay away from the meeting thus causing embarrassment for the Chief Minister. Earlier, a day after Srinagar’s Chief Judicial Magistrate asked the Police to investigate the matter of inciting communal passions; the Chief Minister has ordered constitution of a three member committee to probe the whole episode of Dr Arun Kumar. A panel of three top IAS officers will examine of Dr Kumar made any statement which can be seen in violation of the All India Service rules. The Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that Dr Kumar talked about Hindus and Muslims in terms of causing environmental pollution. This is a statement denied by Kumar. If the panel constituted by the Chief Minister finds out these statements having been made by Kumar there can be a major trouble for him in matter of his service. The Committee has been asked to submit its report to the Government within one week. The Chief Minister has directed for constitution of a 3-member committee comprising Financial Commissioner Coordination, J&K Government, New Delhi, Mr. S. S. Sahni, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Social Welfare Department, Dr. R. K. Jerath, IAS, and Commissioner/Secretary to Government, General Administration Department, Mr. Basharat Ahmad Dhar, IAS, to analyze the evidence, including video and audio-tapes of the press briefing given by Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), Dr. Arun Kumar, IAS, on 17th June 2008 with a view to reporting whether prima-facie the officer has violated the provisions of All India Services (Conduct) Rules and accordingly recommend further action in the matter. |
