Amendment in Forest Corporation Act likely
9/1/2006 9:33:04 PM
Srinagar, Sept 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government could bring some amendments to the existing Forest Corporation Act to clear "bottlenecks" faced by the State Forest Corporation (SFC), Commissioner of Forests Najam-u-Saqib said today.

"Some changes are felt necessary to improve the health of the corporation," he said while talking to the assembly members of the Committee on Public Undertakings here.

The members of the committee who met today directed the SFC to take stringent measures to improve the functioning of the corporation and initiate steps to make it a profitable organisation, an official spokesman said.

The members, who met MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma, discussed the overall functioning of the SFC and deliberated on its audit report for the year 2002, he said.

The spokesman said the committee sought early settlement of pending accounts of the corporation and called for maintenance of accounts on a regular basis.

Some of the members who attended the meeting were legislators G N Lone, Lal Mohd Sabir, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Ghulam Nabi Bhat and Mir Saifullah.
