| Task head of Vohra | | | | Day after tomorrow that is on June 25 Raj Bhawn in Srinagar will host a new guest in former Union Home Secretary N N Vohra, with Gen. S K Sinha giving adieu and leaving the state, after serving as its constitutional head for 3 weeks over 5 years. The new Governor, a non Army General and non former Indian Intelligence Chief, but a civilian taking over as Governor of the trouble state after 18 years, has tasks cut out for him. The 19 years long militancy in the state has receded to a great extent, if not contained and control totally, it goes to the credit of our valiant security forces for having achieved victory over the terrorists, sponsored and assisted by a hostile neighbouring country and aiming at seceding Kashmir from India and creating an Islamic state of Kashmir. In achieving this objective of J&K continue to remain part and parcel of India and a secular democratic character of the state along with the country sustained, thousands of Jawans of Indian army and personnel from other security forces have made supreme sacrifices by lying down their lives at the altar of the motherland. A heavy toll of civilian life is also lost and thousands of innocent citizens have been done to death by the mercenaries and the merchants of death, though in the process a large number of terrorists are also killed and sufferings undergone by their families, along with the families of their victims. Gun wielding terrorism and bomb exploding subversion and sabotage has been controlled to a great extent. But what is left is to achieve victory over ideological terrorism, which has been let loose by the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists of all hue and colour, with some so called mainstream politicians totally surrendering before them and almost joining their camp to win their support in the elections for coming to power. While all the Governors who occupied Raj Bhawn in J&K during last 19 years have made their contribution in winning the war against the terrorists, by extending full support to the security forces, the task ahead for N N Vohra is of little different nature. He has to win the ideological war against the secessionists and fundamentalists. This was is between the forces of separatism, isolation, obscurity, religious fundamentalism and narrow parochial ideology on one hand and secular, democratic and human forces of peace and prosperity on the other hand. Getting unnerved over terrorism, abated and supported by the neighbouring country having failed to achieve their objective the secessionists and religious fundamentalists in Kashmir have opened another front by unleashing and let loosing high voltage propaganda which is negation of all that Kashmiriyat stands for and which is against the traditional character of J&K of communal brotherhood and religious tolerance. The present movement in Kashmir against promotion of Hindu yatra in the Muslim majority Kashmir is in fact manifestation of a new emerging trend and ideological aggression launched by religious fundamentalists. The please of threat to the ecology and environment of the serine mountains with a much larger number of pilgrims undertaking annual Amarnath yatra, with facilities and required infrastructure provided to the, including the transfer of some forest land to the SASB for the purpose etc----all are a part of psychological and ideological terrorism let loose by the religious fundamentalists in Kashmir, to over awe and intimidate the secular minded and peace loving people in the state, who stand for love for human kind and brotherhood among all the religious communities. N N Vohra, as the new Governor of the state has the said task before him to reverse this emerging trend through his skill at winning over the hostile elements through love and commotion and also to deal tough where the need arises. |
