| Centre to take concrete steps for SSI workers, assures PM | | |
Solapur (Maharashtra), Sep 1: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the Centre was aware of the fears and concerns of workers of small scale industries (SSI) and assured concrete steps would be taken to allay them.
"I am aware that there are several concerns and worries before workers of small industries like illness, accidents and death. And there are still several measures to be taken for the welfare of the workers," he said after handing over keys of houses built for women bidi workers here.
"We will have to take concrete steps to allay these fears and concerns. This will require considerable funds. Right now we are thinking about which type of scheme can be implemented where workers' concerns would be removed using available funds with us. I am sure we will find a solution to the issue." The agenda of the UPA government has been finalised as per the National Common Minimum Programme and all the steps being taken by the Centre were based on NCMP, Singh said.
Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and state MLA Narsayya Adam, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde were present on the occasion.
