| Students protest scarcity of teachers | | | Early Times Reporter Poonch | June 23 The claim of the present coalition government of doing wonders in the field of education sector in the state by providing adequate facilities and infrastructure, is nothing more than a mere cheap slogan, said Aijaz Ahmed Jan, Provincial Secretary J&K Youth National Conference, today while talking to the students of the Mandi Govt Higher Secondary School, who walked out of their classes and staged a massive protest against the failure of the government to provide teachers in the school. The students alleged that teachers were not attending to their duties and even the concerned principal was not there, due to which their studies were suffering badly. While giving a patient hearing to the agitating students, Aijaz Jan said ‘the situation as it persists today is all because of the non-serious attitude adopted by the state education department who is playing with the career of the student community’. He said the matter which is of grave concern was repeatedly brought to the notice of the concerned authorities, but in spite of taking any cognizance the department preferred to remain a mute spectator, which his very unfortunate and unjust. All this contradicts the tall claims of the Chief Minster of the State of doing miracles in the field of education in the state", he said adding that upgrading and opening schools just for the sake of publicity is not enough. The schools need adequate infrastructure, teachers, laboratories, which are not seen anywhere, he said. The aggrieved students who had earlier blocked the National Highway for about 5 hours called off their strike after the persuasion by the YNC Provincial Secretary. |
