| Parent battalion of Sinha bids him adieu | | | Early Times Reporter Jhnagar | June 23 The parent battalion, ‘3/ 5 Gorkhas’ of Governor S K Sinha, who rose to the highest pinnacles of his Army career and left an indelible mark in the service of Nation in different capacities as Ambassador and Governor, bade a hero’s farewell to their former Commander at battalion headquarters here this morning. Addressing a Sainik Samelen, the Governor referred to his days with the battalion and said the sweet memories are still afresh in his mind. He said that Gorkhas have served the nation with zeal and devotion and their valour will remain a guiding force for future generations of the Indian Army. General Sinha, in chaste Nepali, said the Gorkhas are known for discipline and dedication and hoped they will always remain in forefront to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the nation. He said that after serving the country for 64 years, he is retiring and will cherish the sweet memories of different places and different States. The Governor interacted with soldiers and told them about various battalions and companies he had commanded during his four decades of the Army career. All ranks of the battalion presented a memento to the Governor as a mark of their affection. They also sought his autographs on the books he has penned so far, which marks the collection of the battalion library. Later, the Governor was taken in a flower bedecked jeep to the waiting chopper and the officers and soldiers bade him an affectionate farewell. It has been a tradition with the Indian Army to bid farewell to the soldiers of the nation when the relinquish any appointment they hold even after their Army career as a mark of respect. The Commanding Officer of 3/5 Gorkhas Col. K. Venugopal introduced the former General and now the Governor to the troops and read out his profile. Later in Jammu, the Ex –Servicemen Leage felicitated the Governor at Raj Bhavan and presented him a memento. The speakers lauded the role of General Sinha in solving their problems and taking care of ex-servicemen and their families. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chapter of Association of Social Health in India (ASHI) also organized a farewell to the Lady Governor, Mrs Premini Sinha. The office bearers of the Association highlighted the role of Mrs Sinha as its President, saying it will remain an inspiration for the organization to carry forward its mission of wiping the tears of needy. |
