| EDI starts 5-day program on commercial floriculture at Udyog Bhawan | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 23 Advisor to Chief Minister, Janak Raj Gupta today inaugurated a 5-day entrepreneurship development program on commercial floriculture at Entrepreneur Development Institute at Udyog Bhawan. The main objective of the program is to involve small farmers in cultivation of flowers which is a successful business venture. While speaking on the occasion, Janak Raj Gupta said that Jammu being the city of temples has highest consumption of marigold flowers and its annual markets in Jammu and Katra is worth Rs. 1 crore. He said that marigold had to be imported from outside the state as the flower is not being cultivated in the Jammu division. Gupta said that by holding such programs, the people of the region would be made aware about the scope of floriculture industry and JKEDI is always playing a vital role in this direction. JKEDI Director, Dr. M.I Parray while addressing the gathering said that institute has taken an initiative to develop entrepreneurship culture among the unemployed youth. The Coordinator Punjab National Bank (PNB), A.K Mota, gave the details of the schemes of PNB in promoting entrepreneurship. Course Coordinator of the program, Dr. M.M Khan said that due to new initiatives by state government it is expected that a lot of investment will be attracted in the state leading to economic development and employment in the industrially backward state of the country. The program was attended by experts from National Horticulture Board, NABARD, Cooperative Department, State bank of India, PNB, Department of Agriculture, potential farmers and entrepreneurs. |
