| Ambika launches Mubarak Mandi project on July 5 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 23 Giving colours to the dream of Jammuites, particularly those concerned with the Dogra heritage, the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni is formally launching the work on preservation, conservation and modernization of historic Mubarak Mandi complex. The Union Minister will formally launch the project on July 5 after the Mubarak Mandi conservation society received a detailed project report prepared by a panel of leading expert organizations. This was revealed by Minister of Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak at a press conference here today. He said that government has entrusted the job for reviving the pristine glory of the complex to four leading institutions of the country including Archeological Survey of India, Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage (INTECH), National Museum, New Delhi and Geological Survey of India. He informed that Union Minister for Tourism Mrs. Ambika Soni would launch modernization work of the Dogra Heritage Complex on July 05, 2008. Charak said that the Centre has accepted the proposal to develop the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex as a Socio-cultural Heritage Centre. He said that Tourism Ministry of Government of India has provided Rs.53 crore financial assistance for restoration work of the Complex, adding that the present government led by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is taking keen interest to develop the complex so that the monument emerges as an important destination in tourism map of the region. He said that at the outset the complex was vacated of High Court and other departments lodged therein followed by summoning of technical experts for conducting renovation work without causing any damage to the original building. Referring to his recent meeting with the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ms Ambika Soni, Mr Charak said that the Union Minister was requested to formulate a comprehensive project for ensuring development and conversion of this Dogra Heritage Palace into Social-cultural Heritage Centre to attract maximum tourists. The Minister informed that all Archieves records which were taken out from the basement record rooms of the Archieves Department were shifted to Old High Court building for proper preservation and packing with year-wise numbering. The job has been completed and the renovation of the Archives record rooms have since been completed with proper ventilation, exhaust systems. He informed that the bar room of old courts with floor tiles and lightening system are completed besides existing library building which is to be renovated at the part of High Court Complex. The existing library and its basement connected with old high court building with plastered structures is being restored to its original glory. Charak said that various offices are being shifted and buildings are got vacated for restoration and conservation purposes. All the newly added structures are being removed to restore the complex to its original glory. He said that for the protection of old buildings, the safety measures are being taken to protect the same. He said that Geological Survey of India is taking steps for study of geotech studies of the slopes so as to take effective steps to safeguard the buildings and slopes. He said that measurement of each and every building alongwith structural designs and aspects has been taken by the consultants and the vision plan formulation is at its final stage as such being taken to preserve and display the Old Royal Dogra virasat at par with the international standards. He appealed the people to help the society the concerned agencies in restoring the pristine glory of Dogra Heritage Complex. |
