Air traffic at Srinagar airport remains suspended for 7th day
12/13/2019 10:24:40 PM
Srinagar, Dec 13 :Air-traffic at Srinagar International Airport remained suspended for the seventh day on Friday due to poor visibility and snowfall since early this morning.
Though the visibility has recorded some improvement this morning, air traffic could not be restored due to snowfall, official sources said. All incoming and outgoing flights will remain suspended today also, they said. They said air traffic will be resumed only if there is further improvement in the visibility.
Air traffic remained suspended and all the flights were cancelled since Saturday due to dense fog.
However, on December 6, 11 flights were cancelled in the morning due to poor visibility and later other flights operated in the afternoon. Majority passengers who were scheduled to travel by air from here to different parts of the country and abroad were very disappointed due to cancellation of all flights for the past seven days.
Airport official said since the visibility is still not good and there was snowfall, we cannot take any risk. However, he said, every effort is being made to resume the air traffic at the airport.
About difficulties being faced by the passengers stranded for the past seven days, he said, the matter to operate additional flights will be taken up with all airlines to accommodate passengers who could not travel during the past five days once air traffic resumes.
Passengers said that they are reaching airport in the morning every day for the past six days only to be told that flights have been cancelled in the evening.
