Parliamentary Committee inspects lift irrigation scheme Ladoora

Standing Parliamentary Committee on Water Resources which on a 3 day visit to the state inspected prestigious Rs 63.62 crore High Lift Irrigation scheme at Ladoora Rafiabad today. The scheme, recently test commissioned, has been designated to provide irrigation facilities to about 65,000 kanals of agriculture and horticulture land in Rafiabad through 34 tributaries. Over Rs.42 crore have been expended on this prestigious project so far.
The team was led by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood control, Mohammed Dilawer Mir.
The Chairman of the Standing Parliamentary Committee, R. Sambasiva Roa (MP) and other members appreciated the state government particularly the Minister who is also public representative of Rafiabad Assembly Constituency for conceiving such a prestigious project which would go a long way in transforming the socio-economic profile of the Rafiabad area in coming days. They assured liberal central assistance for designing similar type of lift irrigation schemes in other water source areas of the state.
Principal Secretary PHE, A.K. Angorana, Deputy Commissioner, Baramullar Baseer Ahmad Khan, Chief Engineer Irrigation Kashmir, Najeeb-u-Hak and other senior officers and engineers also accompanied the committee members.
Briefing the Committee about the objective of the scheme, Mir said that about 9 irrigation Khuls running across Rafiabad area, spreading over 34 kms, would get irrigation water supply from the lift scheme. Besides, the scheme site is also being developed as a scenic/picnic spot to promote tourism in the area. With the commissioning of this project agriculture and horticulture production in the area will increase fours times, he added.
Later, the Standing Committee also inspected pump station at Rohama.
The team is visiting the valley to study the impact of various irrigation projects taken up with central assistance under AIBP. The team will also study any impediments in execution of work and additional recommendation to be made for implementation of these projects.
