| JMC committees' elections: Soodan, Neelam emerge winners | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 24 Independent Corporator from ward number 52 Jaswant Singh Soodan is the new Chairman of Health and Sanitation Committee Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) while Congress Corporator from ward number 31 Neelam Kumari elected as Chairman of Social Justice Committee JMC, the elections for which were held at JMC Complex on Tuesday. It may be mentioned here that 9-member Health and Sanitation Committee JMC has four Congress, three Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidates, one National Conference (NC) and one Independent candidate while 9-member Social Justice Committee JMC has three Congress, two BJP, one NC and three independent candidates. In a straight contest, Independent candidate Jaswant Singh Soodan defeated his rival Satish Sharma, Congress Corporator from ward number 56, by a margin of one vote. Soodan got five votes while Satish Sharma managed only four votes. Former Chairman Health and Sanitation Committee Manmohan Singh was the presiding officer during the election. In another straight contest, Neelam Kumari secured six votes while her rival candidate Pardeep Mankotia, an independent Corporator, got only three votes. Senior BJP Corporator Narsingh Dass was the presiding officer during the election. The elections were held under the chairmanship of Mayor JMC Kavinder Gupta. |
