| Kabaddi: Kathua girls win U-17 trophy | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 24 Beating Rajouri in the final, District Kathua today clinched the girls under-17 year Kabaddi trophy in the divisional level inter-district competitions organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Youth Hostel Nagrota, near here today. Likewise in the semi-finals against Jammu district, Rajouri girls showed a lot of resistance to Kathua in the final but could not make it a win and lost the final by a narrow margin 26-21. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Kathua defeated Udhampur district 35-05 in a one-sided contest while Jammu girls were beaten by district Rajouri 38-30. In the remaining matches of first round quarterfinals played yesterday evening, Jammu outplayed district Poonch 36-5 and Udhampur trounced Doda in a high scoring encounter 48-24. About 110 girls student players drawn from eight districts of Jammu province participated in this two-day girls under-17 kabaddi tournament. On the concluding day today, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jai Raj was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also medals to the finalist teams. Prominent among others present in the closing function included Rajinder Singh, Inderjeet Kour, Chanchal Kour, R C Vaid, Jeet Singh and Raj Kumar. |
