| Vohra arrives today to simmering volcano | | In his last message, Sinha wishes all peace, prosperity | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 24 Amidst a communally polarized and politically sensitive atmosphere prevailing in the state, the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Narendra Nath Vohra is arriving in the summer capital tomorrow to take oath of the constitutional head of the state. The outgoing Governor Lt Gen SK Sinha will fly out of the summer capital tomorrow afternoon after a symbolic farewell at the airport. Vohra’s swearing in slated for tomorrow 5 PM at the Raj Bhawan. He will be administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice S Radhakrishnan. Before demitting the office of Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Gen SK Sinha, in a message to the people, wished peace and prosperity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and hoped that the State will traverse to new heights of development. General Sinha said "On the eve of my departure from this State with which I have been closely associated for over six decades, I send my best wishes to each individual in the three regions of the State. I earnestly pray for their happiness and prosperity. I also pray for peace and all round development of the State". The message adds, "I depart with a feeling of satisfaction that I did my best for the people of the State in war and peace, as also during natural disasters. If I failed to achieve what I strived for, it was not due to any lack of effort on my part. I am grateful to numerous people of the State, particularly during the last weeks who have been generously expressing regard and affection for me. I am happy that my successor is an outstanding civil servant with wide and rich experience. I have had the privilege of knowing him and I have high regard for him. With him as the Head of the State and our dynamic Chief Minister as Head of the Government passionately devoted to development, I see a great future for our State. God bless you all", the message concludes. Earlier, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Mr. Justice K. S. Radhakrishnan and leader of the opposition in the Assembly Mr. Abdul Rahim Rathar paid courtesy calls on Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha in Srinagar, which lasted for one hour each. They wished the Governor a happy and successful life ahead. It may be mentioned here that Vohra will take over as the Governor in the backdrop of fluid political situation the result of public uproar over the transfer of forest land to the Amarnath Shrine Board for the construction of prefabricated huts and toilets at Baltal. The already agitated Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, patron of the PDP, has conveyed his feelings to the Congress high command and had a telephonic conversation with Mr Vohra on Monday. Both the top congress leaders and Mr Vohra have advised the Mufti not to take any hasty step. This suggestion was given to him when he had threatened to pull out of the Government in case the land transfer order was not cancelled by June 30. |
