| Vohra takes over Raj Bhawan | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 25 One of the most promising and trusted bureaucrats India ever produced, Narendra Nath Vohra was today sworn in as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in a glittering ceremony at the Srinagar Raj Bhawan. Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice KS Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Vohra who had arrived in Srinagar this afternoon. The oath ceremony was attended among others by former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who party had taken cudgels with the outgoing Governor Lt Gen SK Sinha. Earlier in the morning Gen Sinha flew out of Srinagar where he was seen off by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Ministers from Congress party and top functionaries of the state government and Army. Vohra, earlier on his arrival at the Srinagar airport, was accorded a accorded ceremonial welcome at the airport. He was warmly received by the Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig. The police band played welcome tune and a contingent of the State Police presented guard of honour to the new Governor. Educated at Punjab and Oxford Universities, Mr. N. N. vohra served in the Indian Administrative Service between 1959 and 1994. The positions he hed during his career include: Home Secretary Punjab, Additional Secretary Defence, Secretary Defence Production, Defence Secretary, Home Secretary and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister. He also served in the Special Services Bureau in the Western Tibet border areas between 1962 and 1964 and underwent training with the British SAS. After retirement, he served as Director of the India International Centre, New Delhi. He was a member of the National Security Advisory Board between 1998 and 2001, Chairman of the National Task Force on Internal Security, Chairman of the IDSA Review Committee, Chairman of the Committee on Review of Military Histories. He is member of the CSCAP National Committee since 2001 and Co-Chairman of the India-European Union round Table, also since 2001. Mr. Vohra remained Special Representative of the Government of India for the J&K Dialogue. |
