Warning that any retracing of the steps taken by the outgoing Governor and the Chairman SASB, in all the good faith, will be resisted tooth and nail by the people of Jammu and nationalists all over the state and the country said Inderjit Khujuria newly appointed convenor of the Amarnath Yatra Action Committee which has been revived after a gap of about 5 years.
He said secessionists and the communal elements in Kashmir including the politicians who claim themselves to be in the mainstream have chosen the timing to launch this high voltage campaign against the yatra just to pressurize the new Governor N N Vohra to submit before their dictates and maintained that if any has to be prosecuted to communalizing the situation it is Muzaffer Hussain Beig Deputy Chief Minister who has been changing his stance day in and day out.
Khajuria said that in the backdrop of this malicious campaign launched by the secessionists and communal elements in Kashmir against annual Amarnath yatra, with some political parties exploiting the situation with an eye on the vote bank and creating communal divide and hatred in the state, Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, which was originally formed in 2003, has been revived to counter the malicious campaign launched in Kashmir against the yatra.
Addressing media persons here immediately after the revival of the Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, Khajuria said that since the eruption of Kashmiri secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists militancy in Kashmir in 1989 the secessionists and communal elements of all sorts in Kashmir have been placing obstructions in the smooth conduct of the Hindu yatra in overwhelming Muslim majority Kashmir. To start with it were the terrorists who threatened the yatra and even indulged in high level violence to obstruct the same.
Referring to the transfer of 800 kanals of forest land in Sindh Forest Division, by the state government to SASB, for creating additional infrastructure and facilities for the Amarnath pilgrims, by setting up temporary pre-fabricated sheds for the halt of the pilgrims and few hundred lavatories for sanitary disposal of human excreta Khajuria said it has snowballed into a high level controversy—thanks to the machinations of the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalist communalists, who raised bogey of a conspiracy to change the Muslim majority character of the area. Notwithstanding the wolf cry raised in this regard defying all logic and reality, since the sheds to be constructed there as well as lavatories will be for a period of two months or so as the yatra lasts, he remarked.
He said the illogical and irrational propaganda unleashed by the communal elements in Kashmir about a conspiracy to change the demographic character of overwhelming Muslim majority Kashmir by permanently settling some Hindus from outside the state is totally unfounded and baseless. It is motivated to create confusion and through a misinformation campaign rouse the communal passions of the Muslims in Kashmir by raising a wolf cry.
Khajuria said on the contrary moves are afoot to change the demography of Jammu by settling a large number of Kashmiri Muslims as well as Muslims from various other parts of the country, in the periphery of Jammu city as well as along the borders and LoC in Jammu region. But the secular minded people of Jammu have not raised any voice and protest against this design, he added.
He said while the secessionists have the clear cut motive to use any handle and avail of any opportunity to give boost to India bashing and hate India campaign among the Kashmiri Muslims, the so called mainstream politicians and political parties like National Conference and PDP are joining their bandwagon to improve their electoral prospects by trying to win the favour of separatists and communal elements, believing them to be blissfully ignorant of their machinations in the past. He said what is most ludicrous is the daily shifting ground by the PDP leader and Deputy Chief Minister in Azad government, Muzaffar Hussain Beig adding that his (Beig’s) changing stance is sheer blackmailing and remarked that if any one deserves to be prosecuted for violating the spirit of the Constitution of India and attempts at creating communal dissentions and hatred, it is the Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig.
