Construction stopped as pictures put Govt in spot

Jammu | June 26
Despite government claims that the controversial land on way to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has not been put to any use so far, the media pictures showed concrete construction going on thus forcing the administration to order an inquiry into the matter.
Media pictures released in Srinagar today clearly showed construction of concrete walls around a community kitchen on way to the shrine on Baltal route. This came a day after Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had ruled out any such construction. Government sources said that a private organization authorities to set up a community kitchen was raising a boundary wall without informing the local authorities.
According to the government sources construction work has stopped on the forest land diverted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that no such activity will be allowed until a consensus is evolved.
An order issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal calls for immediate stoppage of construction work being undertaken at the behest of SASB.
The step has been taken as raising of concrete structures on the forest land violates the spirit of government order allowing usage of land for providing basic facilities to pilgrims taking Baltal route for the holy cave of Amarnath, the order said.
The move came after media reports authenticated by pictures showing construction of concrete structures instead of temporary and pre-fabricated structures raised by the SASB.
The district administration has also ordered an inquiry into these violations. In a letter, the divisional forest officer said that construction work was started by Punjab-based Shiv Rudra Jan Kalyan Sanstha which was given some land to set up a langar (community kitchen) and build a wall on old ground floor of the hutment.
Concrete columns were being raised on the old plinth, the order said. This is sheer violation of the permission issued by the additional deputy commissioner which allowed only repairs of the damaged old structure.
