BJP forces city bandh, 6 injured

Despite resistance from vendors and traders at several places, the activists of BJP supported by various other allied organizations enforced a shutdown in the town which also witnessed sporadic clashes leaving six persons injured.
Several protest demonstrations were held across the winter capital. Activists burnt the effigies of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig for their opposition to the land transfer.
"This is an attack on our religion and we will not allow it to go unchallenged," said VHP chief in the state Rama Kant Dubey. He said they would never allow the Amarnath pilgrimage to be subjected to the "whims and fancies and fundamentalist agenda of the PDP or the National Conference. All of them are Islamic fundamentalists and deserve to be banished from the state and the country."
Tension gripped outskirts of Jammu near Narwal by-pass as two groups clashed with each other and pelted stones. An auto rickshaw was also damaged in the group clash and youths traveling in the auto received injuries. In the melee six persons were injured. The tension was later diffused due to the presence of heavy police force.
Though the transport services were kept out of the bandh call yet the city roads witnessed less rush during peak hours. The entire Jammu witnessed complete shut down and markets remain deserted.Tyres were burnt by angry workers of VHP,Bajrang dal and BJP as a mark of protest at several places in the city.
Normal life in Jammu region which was already witnessing protests against the state government and separatists conglomerate for spearheading a vicious campaign against the Shri Amarnath shrine board came came to a stand still. Reports reaching here from severeal other district headquarters said complete bandh was observed in Jammu region as shops remained closed and normal life went out of gear due to scanty transport services.
