| Committee asks Guv not to surrender | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 27 Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, (AYAC) Jammu has warned the state Governor and the Chairman SASB N N Vohra as well as the state government against any one sided decision on the controversy raised over the allotment of land to the Shrine Board and suggested that the Governor should take into confidence the religious leaders of various Hindu organizations as well as trade organizations who have a stake in the yatra. At a meeting of the Action Committee held under the chairmanship of its convenor Inderjeet Khajuria here today the members expressed serious concerns about the reports emanating from certain quarters that the new Governor N N Vohra is being prevailed upon by certain leaders of Kashmir centric political parties to submit before the dictates of some hooligans in Kashmir who are threatening the smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra by resorting to violence and targeting Hindu pilgrims. The meeting observed that any such surrender by the state Governor in the capacity of Chairman, SASB will have serious repercussions in Jammu as well as all over the country. Warning that Hindus and nationalists of Jammu as well as in the country as a whole should not be taken for granted, the Action Committee has suggested that N N Vohra not to surrender before the secessionists and fundamentalists in Kashmir who are opposed t6o the promotion of Hindu yatra in Kashmir. ‘The yatra is purely a Hindu religious affair and Hindu religious leaders alone can take any decision about the same’, the Action Committee has said and added that ‘non-Hindus have no right to interfere in the matter’. In view of the volatile situation created by the secessionists and other like minded parties, the first and foremost priority should be providing foolproof security to the pilgrims. Unfortunately a message has gone all over the country that traditional Hindu yatra in Kashmir is under threat from the anti-India and communal elements in Kashmir, the meeting observed and said this could discourage the devotees to undertake yatra with reports of some prospective pilgrims having cancelled their program to perform the pilgrimage. The committee suggested that concrete steps should to be taken to shelve this impression by resorting peace and normalcy in Kashmir and conveying the message that there is no threat to the pilgrimage and all those coming for the purpose will be provided full security. ‘Any surrender before the blackmailing of some communal elements having backing of some politicians guided by the vote bank policy will cost the state ruling party in Jammu and the central ruling party at the centre as a whole dearly’, the action committee contended. |
