A workshop on “sensitization workshop on drug abuse prevention” held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium complex, Jammu University which was inaugurated by Ram Sahai President, Chamber of Commerce.
The workshop was organized by JK Society for Promotion of Youth & masses(JKSPYM), a national NGO, in partnership with National Institute of social Defence (NISD), Ministry of social Justice & empowerment Govt of India for sensitization of various NGO’s of J&K working in the field of Drug Abuse and prevention. About 30 NGO’s from Jammu Division took part in the workshop.
On this occasion the distinguished members and staffs shared their experiences with the participants and briefed the audience about the importance of sensitization and drug abuse prevention especially among youths & further elaborated the various activities being performed by the organisation. They also informed that SPYM is actively involved in J&K organising care and support program for drug users in Jammu and Kashmir, like drug rehabilitation, program, Needle Exchange program, Safer Practices program, Abscess management Program, Oral Substitution program, over dose management program among drug users in Jammu.
Sahai while speaking on the occasion of inaugural function shared his valuable opinions and beliefs about the prevalence of drug abuse among the youths and adolescents of Jammu and laid down few possible reasons for its spread and conveyed his heartiest wishes to the organisation for holding such workshop on drug abuse prevention and its sensitization among the masses he further stressed upon the participant NGO’s of the state to come forward and shoulder the responsibility of weeding out the root cause of drug menace.
On the occasion all the participants from different NGOs shared their views to prevent Drug Abuse. They shared that moral education is very necessary to control and prevent this menace and disease. Some of the participants suggested that there is very urgent requirement to form advisory committee in which members from Non Government Organisation and also Government sector should be included.
Rakesh Kumar Thakur, Secretary JKSPYM, D.L Chowdhary, administrator, General Zorawar Singh Auditorium and Dr. B.Labh, HOD Buddhist studies, Jammu University also shared the dais.
The inaugural session was conducted by Pallavi Singh, Project Director Dr. Manoj Bhagat, presented the welcome address and Dr. Arun Sharma presented the vote of thanks. All the staff members including Manju Cheema, Sanjay Jandiyal, etc also attended the workshop.
