| Hockey: 72, 113 Bns in quarterfinals of CRPF tourney | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 27 The two teams of 72 and 113 battalions have made it into the quarterfinals of ongoing inter-battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) hockey tournament organized by Channi based 91 Bn at Group Centre Bantalab, near here. Played in the evening session, teams in both the games displayed some good hockey thus forcing the opponents from scoring more goals. In the first pre-quarterfinal match, 72 Bn defeated 152 Bn by two goals to nil. K Narayan scored the first goal in the 6th minute followed by the second eight minutes later by Parveen Kumar, who netted the ball in the 14th minute. The second half remained barren as winners 72 Bn concentrated most of the time on the defence avoiding risks of counter attacks. The second match was won by 113 Bn who beat 121 Bn by a solitary goal. The only goal scored came through A P Beig after the breather. As against four scheduled matches spread over two sessions, only two pre-quarterfinal games could took place because of wet field due to rains in the wee hours today. “The water logging in the field forced us not to hold the morning session matches today. Now, we have adjudged the effected two games by amending the already laid won fixture accordingly,” chief referee of the tournament, Iqbal Singh said. |
