| DC discusses law and order situation, calls for maintaining peace | | | Early Times Reporter Udhampur | June 28 To review the situation arising due to transfer of forest land to SASB and to maintain law and order in the district, the Deputy Commissioner, O.P. Kalandria convened a meeting of prominent citizens of the town, here today to seek their suggestions on keeping the communal fabric intact in the district. SSP, Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani, Additional Deputy Commissioner,. J.L. Sharma, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Udhampur, Tehsildar Settlement and Territorial, Udhampur, Councilors and prominent citizens including Pawing Gupta, Ramanand Baria, Brij Mohan Sharma, Dr. K. C. Sharma, Syed Kabir Shah, Shakeel Shah, D.R. Atri, S.Kehar Singh, Naresh Sharma, Vijay Manhas, Vikram Slathia, Raj Guru, Roshan Lal Gupta, Ch. Siraj Din, Sita Ram Sharma, Advocates Mohammad Shafi, Surinder Khajuria and Rajesh Gupta were present in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner asked the prominent citizens of different political affiliations and faiths to maintain age old communal amity and brotherhood and not to fall prey to anti-social elements who would try to create trouble on the name of religion or regionalism. He was, however, optimistic that the people of Udhampur have always maintained communal amity despite provocations. The Deputy Commissioner has also urged the citizens and persons of political parties to make the common people living in far-flung areas aware about the mischievous designs of anti-social elements and rumor mongers who would possibly try to shatter the peaceful social fabric of the district. He called for identifying such elements and bringing them to the notice of Police for initiating suitable action against anti-social elements. SSP while speaking on the occasion said that people of Udhampur are peace loving and would never give a chance to vested interests to succeed in the evil designs of dividing the people on communal lines. He assured all possible help from the District Police in redressal of grievances of the people of the district. They can approach Police as and when needed in the hour of trouble, he added. The citizens also assured the District Administration that they would extend all possible help in maintaining law and order and communal harmony. While condemning the act of stone pelting on vehicles of Amar Nath pilgrims in Kashmir, the citizens demanded immediate arrest of culprits involved in such activities. They appealed the government to keep a strict vigil on such elements so that such unwanted activities do not take place in future. They also called for a viable solution over transfer of Forest land issue. |
