| Vohra confident about early solution | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 28 Governor N N Vohra today held a series of meetings with leaders of various political parties and delegations, who apprised him of their views and assessment of the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir. All of them urged him to defuse the situation and restore normalcy in the State. Minister for Transport and President of People's Democratic Front, Hakeem Mohammed Yasin and M Y Tarigami, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA, had a joint meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan. This was followed by a meeting with a CPI delegation led by its senior leader, Abdul Rehman Takroo. Prof Bhim Singh, President, J&K National Panthers Party and MLC, along with a 3-member delegation also called on the Governor in the afternoon and urged him to take urgent action to restore normalcy in the State. Vohra appreciated the endeavors of various political parties and their leaders to defuse the situation and expressed confidence that all issues would be resolved very early. He emphasized the need for maintaining peace and tranquility to foil the attempts of the elements which have a strong vested interest to vitiate the peace in Kashmir and Jammu regions. Earlier, Professor Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, also called on the Governor and briefed him about major issues relating to the University and particularly informed the Governor about the University's outreach program in far flung areas. He explained the activities of the extended University Campuses in Bhaderwah, Poonch, Kathua etc and the ongoing endeavors to take higher education at the door steps in under-privileged areas. |
