| Work in Civil Secretariat comes to halt; less than 10% employees report for duty | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 28 Apart from life having been paralyzed in the Kashmir valley for the last six days on account of violence from those demanding cancellation of land transfer order the work in all the Government departments, including the civil secretariat, has remained shut. Not even 10 per cent employees have been able to make to their offices for attending to their office chores. A number of people, including industrialists from Jammu, who had gone to Srinagar to get their cases cleared in the civil secretariat, were forced by circumstances to cut short their stay even after spending several thousand rupees on lodge and board in hotels. Work in the educational institutions, including the universities, has been totally affected when neither the faculty members not the students were able to move out of their residences for the last four days. The Government has ordered closure of educational institutions till today. Judged by the level of violence and public resentment the Government may be forced to extend the closure of the educational institutions. Majority of people in Srinagar city and in other towns had to bank on simple meals as mutton and vegetable shops remained shut. Reports said that most of the people had to bank on pulses and dry beans. At number of places even bread and butter were not available. |
