| Present turmoil in Valley harm common man’s interest: Chadha | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 28 The senior PDP leader R.K Chadha, has appealed to the intelligentsia and enlightened people of Kashmir to come out and defuse the present communally surcharged atmosphere in the state. The present turmoil in Kashmir in harming the interest of common man, particularly those who earn their livelihood from tourism and pilgrimage. He suggested that there should be a ceasefire over the controversial issue of allotment of some forest land to SASB by the government, for two months till the yatra lasts, so that no obstruction comes in the way of pilgrimage, which brings economic boon to all sections of the Kashmiris. After the yatra period is over, the whole gamut of the issue of transfer of land as well as the role of SASB with regards to Amarnath pilgrimage should be discussed by all those having stake in the pilgrimage and tourism and a mutually agreed decision should be taken afresh, he added. Chadha discounted any fear of change of demographic character of overwhelming of Muslim majority Kashmir, with when even 10 lakhs people performing the pilgrimage during two months, since their stay in Kashmir for the purpose will be for a week or so, and added So as there is Article 370 the Indian constitution, giving J&K special status and there is provision of permanent state resident certificate, no non state subject of J&K can permanently settle here. As regards the concern raised about adverse effects to the ecology and environment of the area, Chadha has said that the famous Dal Lake, the Jewel in crown of Kashmir has been polluted to the extent that the same has been converted into huge lavatory. The High Court of J&K in grating permission to the SASB for creating facilities for the pilgrims has already laid the condition of not taking any step which harms environment and ecology of the area beside SASB has been also barred from raising any concrete structure in the area. At this stage when communal frenzy is at its height taking of any decision may not be possible. Chadha appealed both the people of Kashmir and Jammu not to disturb and harm the traditional communal amity and religious tolerance in the state. |
