| Patil meets Manmohan | | J&K crisis | | New Delhi | June 28 With political crisis gripping Jammu and Kashmir amid widespread protests against transfer of forest land to the Amarnath shrine board, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today took stock of the situation at a high-level meeting here. Soon after PDP pulled out of the Congress-led coalition in the state, Singh held discussions with Home Minister Shivraj Patil and party General Secretary incharge of Jammu and Kashmir Prithviraj Chavan about the prevailing situation. Patil is understood to have briefed the Prime Minister on the situation arising out of continued protests accompanied by sporadic violence in the state against the transfer of 39.88 hectares of forest land to the Amarnath board. Problems for Ghulam Nabi Azad government got compounded as the junior coalition parter PDP joined the voices against the transfer of the forest land and pulled out the government reducing it to minority. |
