Police arrest duo on charges of stone-pelting incident over Nowgam accident case

JAMMU, Jan 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two youths on the charge of stone pelting in Nowgam area of Srinagar outskirts after a youth was killed by the police vehicle this week.
The arrested youth have been accused of resorting to heavy stone-pelting on security forces after a road accident involving a police bus that killed a class 10th student.
The youth have been identified as Rizwan Ahmed Rather of Methan Chanapora and Shahnawaz Sikandar of Rajpora Pulwama. A police official said, these two were identified on videos and thus were arrested.
It is pertinent to mention here that Nowgam area witnessed shutdown and violent clashes after a speedy police bus mowed a 16 year old student Tehseen Nazir Bhat of Bonpora Nowgam.
Security Forces had resorted to firing to disperse the protesters that resulted in the injury of a local shopkeeper.
Later a police spokesman later in a statement said," A traffic mishap occurred at Nowgam area in the outskirts of Srinagar resulting in injuries to two persons.
"The road traffic accident happened when two vehicles one of which belonged to Armed Police collided and consequently two persons sustained injuries".
The injured persons were shifted to hospital for the treatment of injuries however one of the injured persons identified as TehseenNazir of Nowgam succumbed while the other injured person continues to receive treatment at the hospital and is stated to be stable," the police spokesman had said.
The police had registered a case FIR No: 03/2019 under relevant sections of law in this regard. While, the driver of the police vehicle was arrested and further investigation in the matter is in progress.
