| PDP burns bridges, Govt turns minor | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 28 Azad: vested interests trying to divide Hindus-Muslims for votes Omar: No political crisis, PDP has done this for political mileage Mehbooba: it was a moral duty to disassociate from government Two days ahead of the deadline it had set for taking a decisive action on the Amarnath Shrine Board land controversy, the Peoples Democratic Party this evening pulled out of the Ghulam Nabi Azad government pushing Jammu and Kashmir in a state of political instability. With withdrawal of support by the Peoples Democratic Party, the Ghulam Nabi Azad government has been reduced into a minority. The ball is now over to the court of Raj Bhawan as next step –either to allow a minority government or impose Governor’s rule –is now on the Governor NN Vohra who is keenly monitoring the developments. This expected development came immediately after return of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti from London. On Mehbooba’s arrival the party legislators had a twp-hour long meeting at the residence of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed where this decision was taken. The The decision of the coalition partner about four months before assembly elections comes on top of violence in Kashmir over the issue of transfer which the PDP ministers had originally cleared. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, after a two-hour long meeting with her party legislators, announced that her party was withdrawing from the Government saying it was a "moral duty to disassociate from government." "We have pulled out of the government and submitted a letter to the Governor in this regard," Mehbooba told reporters after meeting new Governor N N Vohra. It may be mentioned here that after eruption of controversy over allotment of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, the Peoples Democratic Party had set June 30 as deadline for pulling out from the government if the land allotment order was not withdrawn. Surprising every one the PDP announced its decision of pulling out two days ahead of the deadline. Political observers are of the opinion that the Government and the Raj Bhawan were “very close” to finding a solution to the land row but the PDP made haste for pulling out of the government in a bid to consolidate sympathy in Kashmir Valley which is these days burning with anger. Even today itself, a Raj Bhawan spokesman had quoted the Governor Vohra as saying that he was confidant of finding a solution to the controversy. Another reason being seen for PDP pull out is looming instability over Congress led UPA government at the Center which too is appearing falling over the Nuclear deal crisis. Dwindling fortunes of Congress at Center and its imminent fallout in Jammu and Kashmir may also have influenced the PDP decision, opined the political observers. It may be noted here that the people in Kashmir Valley are not fully convinced with the stand taken by the PDP over the land row. The agitated people have holding the PDP equally responsible for the allotment of land. Therefore the pull out was a desperate bid to gain some public sympathy as the assembly elections are just round the corner. |
