| PHE engineer manhandled, vehicle destroyed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 29 Residents of localities around Bag-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort today pelted stones on an executive engineer of public health engineering (PHE) causing destruction of his vehicle besides injuries to him when the latter arrived at Bhoria Filtration Plant which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad recently near Bag-e-Bahu to examine the cause of contamination of the water as complained by the residents of Gorkh Nagar. Thousands of the people with contaminated water bottles gathered at the site and started protesting against PHE department. Raman Bhalla MLA of Gandhi Nagar constituency reached on the spot. Employees of the department including Xen Natha Ram also reached on the spot. People of the area alleged that PHE department has been supplying the contaminated water for the last four days to the area of the people where as fresh water of tube well was being supplied to the other localities. They demanded supply of tube well water instead of Bhoria Filtration Plant. Bhalla assured the people that the cause behind the supply of contaminated water will be examined soon. Supply of fresh water of tube well was also assured to the people. As soon as Bhalla left , the people of the area reportedly started pelting stones on the executive engineer alleging his misbehavior with them. The engineer Natha Ram rushed to Bag-a-Bahu police station for protection. The matter was pacified only when the police intervened. The Xen has lodged a complaint against the corporator of the area Asha Devi and her husband along with others alleging that they had instigating the people for pelting stones on him. |
