| Jubilation in Jammu over PDP pull out, turned into despair overnight | | PDP's treachery stands exposed | | Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | June 29 News Analysis The mood of jubilation in Jammu after the breaking news about pull out of PDP from Azad led coalition government in the state, on Saturday evening, believed here to be good riddance generating hope that the government and the State Governor, the Chairman of the SASB would now stick to their guns, was changed overnight, with disappointment and resentment writ large on the faces of common man in Jammu, who perceive the decision taken jointly by the Chief Minister and the Governor that the State government would take the responsibility of Amarnath Shrine Board, while the shrine board will be left with no responsibility to conduct the yatra, as abject surrender before the blackmail. The picture till the writing of this piece at 11 am on Sunday is not clear, about the future course of action to be taken by the concerned to defuse the crises and volcanic situation prevailing in Kashmir, with clear cut secessionists and communal overtones. The violent protest being held in Kashmir demanding retracing of the government order to allot 800 kanals of land to Amarnath Shrine Board for creating facilities for the Amarnath pilgrims, which was purposely misinterpreted by the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists in the valley as a conspiracy to change the demographic character of overwhelming Muslim majority Kashmir, by permanently settling Hindus from outside the state on the land allotted to SASB, had turned into anti India, pro Pakistan and independent Kashmir movement, with Pakistani as well as Islamic flags being hoisted in various parts of Srinagar city and the protesting mobs shouting anti India, independent Kashmir and even pro Pakistan slogans. It is to be seen how far this scenario is revered and the violent situation defused, even after the concerned authorities bowing before the pressure and blackmail of anti India and communal forces in Kashmir on one hand and the coalition partner in the government, the PDP, who last evening ditched the Congress led coalition government by announcing to pull out of it, after heading the coalition government with Congress support for three years and then remaining in power as a coalition partner of Congress led government for 2 years and 8 months and pulling the rug from under its feet only little before the elections, with eye on electoral gains. The fall out of this apparent surrender by the state government and more so by the new Governor, who is the Ex-Officio of SASB, in Jammu and other parts of the country will be watched closely in the days to come. It is also to be seen whether after announcement of the decision by the government and the Governor, virtually accepting the demands of the secessionists and religious fundamentalists in Kashmir and the PDP, whether PDP takes back its decision to withdraw its support to the government. If the present crises and turmoil prevailing in Kashmir is defused and normalcy restored, with Yatra going on uninterrupted and conducted smoothly, without any fear and threat and the expected number of pilgrims coming to perform the same as well as the set back received to holiday tourism in the wake of disturbed conditions in Kashmir, is made good, the government decision can be termed as a tactical retreat, in the ultimate overall interest of the country and the state as well as in the interest of the smooth and peaceful conduct of Amarnath yatra. In any case, PDP will claim itself to be a martyr for the cause which Kashmiri Muslims hold dear, by claiming that their sacrifice in terms of pulling out from the government has forced the government and the Governor to take the decision they have ultimately taken. And in case PDP decides to join back the government and the Congress takes back the PDP ministers in the coalition government led by it the PDP will interpret it as its double victory. It will be like PDP eating the cake and having it too. However this has exposed the dubious character of PDP and its leaders, notably Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba Mufti and above all of Muzaffar Hussain Baig. There are reports that PDP had got the inkling of the government and the Governor retracing the step and they took preemptive step to pull out of the government, even two days before the deadline set by them for the government to accept their demand, failing which they would pull out of the coalition government, to precipitate the matter and staking claim for the same. Their preemptive action was only aimed at harvesting electoral gains, by winning the sympathy of the secessionists and religious fundamentalists in Kashmir. In this regard, the reports appearing in the media that two days earlier also the Governor had assured the PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig and NC President Omer Abdullah that he would favourably considered their suggestion to voluntarily surrender the controversial land to the government as well as the responsibility of conducting the yatra to the state government and it was only to sabotage this move, with a view to project the PDP as martyr for the cause of Kashmiri Muslims, with eye on vote banks, that Baig gave clear hints of the same to the media, forcing the Governor to withhold the decision for sometime. The PDP role from the very beginning has been dubious and treacherous, out and out guided with eye on vote bank. Now it for Congress to decide whether it has to continue a marriage of convenience with a disloyal and treacherous ally, who will not mind to stab in the back whenever it suits their interest. |
