Jammu | June 29
Even after a string of unprecedented developments –withdrawal of PDP from the government, undeclared dissolution of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, taking over of pilgrimage by the government –the problem in Kashmir persisted where it actually had been while its retaliation has traveled down to Jammu region which is now all set for a show down.
In a late last night development, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board headed by the Governor surrendered claim over the controversial land and the Raj Bhawan asked the state government to take over charge of pilgrimage. This was done to soothe the rising passions in Kashmir Valley. Without having any positive impact on situation in the Valley, the overnight decision of transferring yatra affairs from SASB to government has provoked many organizations in Jammu which have called for a shut down on Monday.
Soon after the Governor’s decision was made public several organizations like BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal etc spilled over roads and lodged their protest.
The announcement about the government decisions triggered chain reaction in Jammu where large number of activitists belonging to saffron parties torched effigies of Governor NN Vohra, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
In the evening BJYM activists also torched effigy of Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister outside the Raj Bhawan. Earlier in the morning Lok Jan Shkati party activists gathered outside the office of the PDP and burnt effigy of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. JK Vichaar Manch also organsied street protests and demonstrated against the decision of the state government to take control of the Amarnath yatra.
Addressing a press conference here at the party headquarters BJP unit chief Ashok Khajuria said that the BJP is not at all happy with the decision of the Governor who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board requesting the state government to make arrnagments for the Amarnath pilgrims while giving up its claim over the forest land diverted by the state government to the shrine board to raise facilities for the pilgrims.
The BJP chief also announced that people in Jammu would block all essentail supplies to Kashmir and ensure that economic blockade would be successful.
Leaders of the Visha Hindu Parishad,Hindu Shiv Sena,Jammu and Kashmir Vichaar Manch, local unit of the RSS have also extended their support to the bandh call and announced that Jammu will witness black day on Monday in protest against the decision of the state government to take charge of the Yatra arrangments.
Addressing apress conference president of the Jammu State Morcha Progressive Prof Virendra Gupta on Sunday demanded dismissal of the Congress led minority government while supporting the bandh call.
