| Congress high command in a fix over future of govt in state | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 30 The Congress high command is in a fix over its future stand vis-à-vis the PDP with which it shared power in Jammu and Kashmir for over five years. The top congress leadership is reviewing the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir and is weighing the plus and minus points of the possible alliance with the National Conference. The possibilities of such a tie-up surfaced when the National Conference President ,Omar Abdullah, flew to Delhi on Sunday where he talked to the Union Home Minister,Shivraj Patil,on phone.Informed sources said that Omar Abdullah informed the Union Home Minister about the ground realities and blamed the PDP for the mess the state was in at present. The sources said that the central leader phoned Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is in London, and suggested to him to return to Delhi. Now that the Government has taken the management of the Amarnath Yatra in its hand and the Governor,as head of the Shrine Board, having conveyed to the Chief Minister that the Board did not require any land at Baltal and Domel the situation seems to have changed which could encourage the National Conference leadership to revive its ties with the Congress. The Congress high command is in look out of the support of some regional party that could help in defusing the crisis in Jammu and Kashmir. It is on the basis of an equation developing between the NC and the Congress that the Chief Minister announced his prepardness to demonstrate his majority on the floor of the House.Since the PDP withdrew its support to the Government the Chief Minister has been ascerting that he enjoyed the majority support. And if the tie-up between the congress and the National Conference materialized it would fulfill the latter’s plan of seeing the PDP sidelined. |
