| BGSB University empowering rural women: VC | | | Early Times Reporter Rajouri | June 30 Masud A. Choudhary, Vice Chancellor BGSBU, distributed cheques and certificates to pass outs of two Training Batches of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Cultivation and Floriculture at a well attended valedictory function held at the Centre for Biodiversity Studies here today. The training program is a novel initiative for creating enterprises for environmental and livelihood security in the form of a project, entitled Bio-resource-based training of rural women of district Rajouri- the hinterland of Jammu and Kashmir, funded by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The principle objectives of the project are empowerment of rural women by introducing low-cost technologies depending on locally available raw materials. The vision behind the project is improvement of financial status and economic independence of around 720 women through non-traditional activities such as mushroom cultivation and quail farming as an enterprise along with familiarization with the concept of entrepreneurship, marketing and cooperatives. During the six-months training the women were taught the benefits of the said activities using various methods such as class room lectures, field visits and hands-on training. |
