Bihari labourers under attack, asked to leave Kashmir

Srinagar | June 30
Non-resident labourers have been once again threatened to leave Kashmir valley in a month's time failing which they will face serious consequences.
People's Political Party (PPP) Chairman, Hilal Ahmed War today said that non-resident labourers, especially Bihari have alarming presence in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Kashmir region, "where they are being settled illegally".
"Indian Intelligence agencies and fanatic Hindu organizations like VHP, RSS, and Bajrang Dal etc. are sending their trained men from various parts of India particularly from Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and U.P. to Kashmir under the garb of labourers and artisans.
The number of these labourers (skilled and unskilled) has risen to 10 lac within a local population of 50 lac, he said.
"This is an alarming situation" said War "A good number of these aliens have acquired election cards and illegitimate state subject certificates. They have been found indulging in drug trafficking, sex selling and other anti-social and immoral activities"
He further said that crime rate in Kashmir was absolutely low and after the advent of Biharis, the graph has glaringly gone upwards and crimes with typical Bihari modus operandi are witnessed regularly in the valley now"
Elaborating on his anti-Bihari drive, the PPP Chairman said that his party has no qualms with students, doctors, technocrats and other professionals. "We've no problems with professionals coming here and doing their duties. Compared to the labour class, there numbers would be far lesser and instead of draining our economy, they would lend us economic support without disturbing our religio-cultural ethos. It is far easier for the fanatic Indian parties and agencies to infiltrate trained criminals into labourers than into the professionals"
When asked if he had considered a possible backlash in the form of an anti-Kashmiri drive in India War said "In first place, I don't see that happen as our people's track record in India is very clean and we don't indulge in crimes. And in case that happens, we are ready to suffer a much lesser loss for a far greater gain".
The PPP Chairman warned of a strong civil movement if the Indian labour class didn't leave Kashmir peacefully within a month's time.
