| Parties mount psycho terror | | PDP, NC, Panthers say no supporting Congress | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 30 To mount a psychological pressure on the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad ahead of his crucial trust vote, the Peoples Democratic Party, National Conference and the Panthers Party today clarified their position before media that none of the members from their parties was ready to support the government. Leave aside extending support to the government Panthers Party leader Bhim Singh, at a press conference here today, called for sacking of the government on the land transfer issue. He said that the government has lost trust of the people of both communities and should be sacked forthwith to impose the Governor's rule. The National Conference leader Omar Abdullah issued a statement clarifying that his party has nothing to do with the trust vote of the Congress government. Though he favoured survival of the government but made it clear that National Conference will not extend any support. Meanwhile, the PDP paraded its MLAs before the media in a bid to put at rest speculation that the party might split ahead of a confidence vote for Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad next week. Although the PDP called the media for a briefing over its legislature party meeting, it turned out to be a virtual show of strength as all but three MLAs were present at the residence of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Srinagar. Those absent from the meeting included the party patron who is out of station, Manjit Singh and rebel MLA from Beerwah Sarfaraz Ahmad Khan. Governor N N Vohra has asked Azad to prove his majority in the state assembly by July 7 after the Chief Minister wrote to him claiming the support of the majority of members despite his government being reduced to a minority after PDP pulled out on Saturday. Speculations were rife here that some members of the PDP might break away to support the Azad-led government which might otherwise collapse as opposition National Conference has ruled out coming to its rescue. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti told reporters that the legislature party meeting was called to discuss the latest situation developing in the state. At the meeting the party reiterated its demand that the order transferring 39.88 hectares of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) be revoked immediately, she said. |
