| 7/7, Azad's D-Day July | | Vohra asks CM to prove majority | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 30 Amidst sky touching flames of communal fire engulfing Jammu and Kashmir, the Governor NN Vohra has asked the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to prove the numerical strength constitutionally necessary for survival of his government by or before July 7. Early this morning, a confident Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had written to the Governor that he is ready to prove strength whenever the latter decides. He had claimed that he continues to enjoy the majority and can prove it any time. After getting this communiqué, the Governor, Vohra addressed a letter to Chief Minister, Azad, asking him to prove majority on the Floor of the House by 7th July 2008. According to a Raj Bhavan spokesman, the Governor in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister has asked him to prove majority on the Floor of the House on any date not later than July 7, 2008 in keeping with established conventions of parliamentary democracy. In his letter to the Governor early this morning, the Chief Minister had offered to prove his majority on the floor of the house any time the Governor decides. In a written communication to the Governor, the Chief Minister had said although he continues to enjoy the support of the majority of members he was ready to prove it on the floor of the house in keeping with the highest traditions of parliamentary democracy and to dispel any misgivings on this account. The Chief Minister said that following the withdrawal of support to his government by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a constituent of the ruling coalition, he continues to enjoy the support of majority of the members and was ready to prove it on the floor of the house any time decided by the Governor. |
