| Modi urges PM to break silence on Amarnath Shrine issue | | | Ahmedabad | July 1 Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to break his "silence" on Amarnath Shrine land transfer row in Jammu and Kashmir and clarify the Centre's stand on the issue. Speaking at a function organised by the Chartered Accountants of city, Modi also requested Singh to appeal to Muslims who need to come forward and donate the forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in order to strengthen the unity in the country. He said that by not speaking up, Singh was acting as a "silent spectator and indirectly supporting" those who want to tarnish India's social unity. Describing the entire issue as part of vote-bank politics, Modi said it is unfortunate that poor devotoees have to suffer because of political reasons. Modi also urged the Muslims of the country to come forward and ask the government to donate the land to SASB in national interest. |
