Separatists welcome central funds not Army's land occupation

Jammu | July 1
The Kashmiri separatists have added new dimensions to the ongoing row over the diversion of 800 kanals of forest land to the Shrine Board. Despite the fact that neiher the diversion deal has been signed nor the Board was going to utilise the land for raising prefabricated tents on a temporary basis the separatists have started voicing the demand for evicting the Army which had occupied vast chunks of land in the State for setting up their units, cantonments and residential complexes during the past 55 years. They possily do not want to know that the Army occupies 70 per cent of the area in Leh and Kargil districts which is followed by Poonch and Rajouri.Already the Army has vacated several school and hospital buildings, private residences and some orchards after the PDP patron,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, raised a ruckus while demanding withdrawal of troops from these areas. The trend seems to have been set in motion. The state Forest Department has issued show cause notice to the Army authorities to explain why the forest land Act has been violated by the Brigade commanders in Poonch sector without realising that the Army had not used the forest land for their personal comfort.
Finding the atmosphere conducive for their nefarious gameplan the separatists have started telling people that the current agitation was not against the Shrine Board but against the occupation of the valley's land by the Army. This demand has been raised to further strengthen the unity among the moderates and hardliners in the separatist camp. And the PDP leadership's cry over the diversion of forest land to the Shrine Board has seemingly brought the two separatist groups under one umbrella.Their cry over occupation of land by the Army attracted a large crowd of people to their rallies in Srinagar on Monday. These separatists had witnessed, during the last over one decade, gradual erosion in their influence on people.Invariably their calls for shut down used to evoke mixed response when a decade ago such calls received tremendous response from people. The Government offered them a slice of cake and the separatists have felt encouraged for demanding the entire cake.
Unfortunately these separatists have not seen the impact of the operation Sadbhavana, lauched by the Army,in several border and remote areas in the state.Since the leaders of the separatist camp confine their political activities to the city of Srinagar and some major towns they have not travelled to farfliug areas to see for themselves the benefit people in several hundred villages have been enjoying after the Army set up over 1,000 mini power plants. They have not seen the the role the Army has played in building the road connectivity in these remote belts of the state. They have shut their eyes over the Army's contribution to strengthening the conomy of the border villagers. They deliberately feign ignorance on the quantum of relief people had from scores of medical camps organised by the Army.Army's contribution in the education sector is laudable as it spent crores of rupees on the construction and renovation of school buildings.Number of villages have been adopted where major development activities have been carried out by the troops.
After the Hindus were forced to flee Kashmir in 1990 these very elements target tourists, pilgrims and Bihari labourers.Once they fully succeed IAS and IPS officers from outside would be targeted if they succeed in this mission also they will target central Government offices. But it is sure they will not turn down monetary aid from the centre. They would not reject flow of foodgrains, mutton, chicken, eggs, cheese and other items of daily use from outside the state.Instead of informing people about the reality they misinform them because they know misleading alone can ensure their survival.
