Where are Jammu Ministers?
7/2/2008 12:05:39 AM
Early Times Reporter
Jammu | July 1
Seeing Jammu being caught in rising flames, the leaders of this region including the Congress veterans are apparently more busy in pleasing the separatist agitators in Kashmir Valley than dousing flames back home.
Ever since protests broke out in Jammu, no Minister or any sign of the political establishment has shown up face in City or other parts of region to quell the protests and diffuse tension. Leave aside visiting Jammu, the Minister cooling heels in Srinagar and probably seeing last minute official files anticipating fall of the government, did not even issue a statement or appeal asking the people to maintain calm.
Jammu has been protesting with seething anger but credit goes to the angry people of this place who have not allowed the situation to attain communal colours. For last week there has been unrest in Jammu which got intensifies during last two days, but the local people have demonstrated their best traits of secularism by avoiding any communal clash.
It was only today that one Minister (Gulchain Singh Charak) issued a statement asking people to maintain calm. Neither Charak nor any other Minister has bothered to visit Jammu to speak to the agitating people.
The senior Congress leader and Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, last evening addressed a press conference in Srinagar in which he claimed that the government was working out a solution which will go in interest of both regions and both communities. If one sees the solution devised by the government it has caused a heart burn in Jammu and among the Hindu community.
