| Teachers asked to stop corporal punishment to students | | | Early Times Reporter

Director School Education Kashmir in a circular has called upon the management of all Government and Private schools to ensure that students are allowed to acquire education with dignity and in an atmosphere free from fear of punishment, physical or otherwise. The teachers should avoid giving corporal punishment to the students as it carries long term detrimental effects on children's overall development, self-esteem and their interest in learning. The teachers should explore options like consultation, conciliation and counseling instead restoring to rod. The guidelines issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights perceive acts of scolding students in class as tantamount to crime. |
