Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 26: Chilly weather conditions have further intensified during the day due to overcast conditions though night temperature improved and settled above normal across Kashmir valley, which received fresh snowfall during the last 24 hours.
People continued to suffer in Ladakh region even as all waterbodies, including lakes and streams, remained frozen due to extreme chilly weather conditions. Border town of Drass was the coldest place in the region at minus 21.7 degree, followed by Leh, where the mercury settled at minus 12.9 degree.
A Met department spokesperson told that skies will be generally cloudy with very light snow at one or two places during the next 24 hours. “Light to moderate snow would occur during the next 48 hours from Monday as the system will intensify under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region,” he said.
He said there is a weather warning on Tuesday when heavy snow would occur at isolated places and light to moderate snow at most place in the valley.
After witnessing above normal night temperature, people woke up to a chilly and cloudy Sunday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. But, as the day progressed sun came out though the weather remained chilly as the intensity of the heat was very less coupled with ice cold winds. Against minus 3 degree recorded on Saturday, the night temperature in Srinagar was minus 0.2 degree, which is 2 degree above normal. The summer capital on Saturday evening received light snowfall, affecting normal life.
The spokesperson told that skies will be generally cloudy with very light snow during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 5 degree and 1 degree, respectively
