| BJP calls nationwide strike on July 3 on Amarnath row | | | New Delhi | July 2
In the wake of the Jammu and Kashmir government revoking its order on transfer of land to Amarnath Shrine Board, BJP on Tueesday called a nationwide strike on July 3 to protest the decision.
"The BJP calls a nationwide strike on July 3 to protest this monstrous act of revoking the allotted land to the Shrine Board for Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir," party President Rajnath Singh said in New Delhi.
Singh, who was talking to reporters after a special meeting of the party functionaries convened by him on the issue, said democracy, secularism and civility are under "serious threat" in Jammu and Kashmir.
By revoking the allotment, Congress party has demonstrated that it is one with fundamentalists in creating a theocratic environment in the Kashmir valley, he said.
The party functionaries were of the view that the decision has been taken "under the guidance of the Centre", he said, adding "the act" has established that the Congress party rejoices in trampling over the sentiments of the majority of the people in the country.
As per sources, the party functionaries were of the opinion that the party has found a "logical extension" to its poll issue of minority appeasement.
"The UPA has now come out in open as a anti-Hindu government. It is a step further to minority appeasement," sources said.
The saffron party also opposed any move to hand over the arrangement for the Amarnath Yatra to the tourism department. |
