| Action committee condemns police firing | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 2 Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, Jammu has condemned use of excessive force by the police on peaceful demonstrators in various parts of Jammu region against abject surrender by the state governor and the government before the blackmail and pressure mounted upon by the secessionists and religious fundamentalists in Kashmir, by revoking the order about allotment of some land to the SASB for use to create facilities for the Amarnath pilgrims. As per a release, in a joint statement issued here today by leaders of various constituents of the Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, the unprovoked firing by the police at Muthi, critically injuring three persons and severe lathi and cane charges as well as lobbing of tear smoke shells on the peaceful protestors in various parts of Jammu city and other towns in the region, causing injuries to 500 people. The action committee also assailed action of claiming indefinite curfew in Jammu city and imposing section 144 in many other towns, causing untold hardships and sufferings to the common man. In dealing with the law and order situation, the government has betrayed its anti Jammu mindset, by adopting harsh measures to foil the peaceful observance of bandh and holding of demonstrators in favor of country’s solidarity and unity as well as to demand safeguard of religious rights of all the communities and non interference of the demand safeguard of religious affairs of any community. Extending full support to the bandh call and the movement launched by the people of Jammu against injustice and government’s action, the committee has demanded immediate reversal of the government policy of appeasement of anti national elements and suppression of the nationalist in Jammu. Those who attended the meeting included Inderjeet Khajuria, Kuldeep Vahi, Baldev Khullar, Mahant Shub Narayan Dass, Subesh Shaw, Mahesh Padha, Ashwani Sharma, Inderjeet Sharma and Pawan Gupta, the release added. |
